Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new difluoroethylene derivative useful as a low-viscosity liquid crystal material highly stable to light.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula 1 [A3 is 1,4-disubstituted cyclohexenylene; A1, A2 and A4 are each trans-1,4-disubstituted cyclohexylene, 1,4-disubstituted cyclohexenylene or 1,4-disubstituted phenylene (these may be substituted by halogen and/or cyano); Y2 and Y2 are each COO, OCO, C≡C, CH2CH2, CH=CH, OCH2, CH2O or single bond; (m) and (n) are each 0 or 1; R1 and R2 are each alkyl, halogen or cyano], e.g. trans-1,2-difluoro-1-(4-n- propylphenyl)-2-(4-n-propylcyclohexene--1-yl)ethylene. Some of the compounds of the formula 1 can be obtained according to the shown reaction process using chlorotrifluoroethylene as the starting material.
