To provide a digital broadcasting receiver and a method for controlling the receiver capable of synchronizing displayed video and reproduced sound easily with each other even in the state of optionally and selectively giving various kinds of digital data processing to video data and sound data.
The receiver is provided with: a sound delay quantity storage part 28 for storing a database in which the types of data processing to be given to the video data and the amounts of delay occurring in the video data for each type of the data processing are correlated; and a sound delay processing circuit 21 which reads the amount of delay corresponding to the type of data processing to be given to the video data from the database stored in this part 28 and gives delay processing to the sound data on the basis of this read delay quantity.
