A digital camera has an image pickup means which photographs a subject to output image data, an image analysis means which detects a principal subject on the basis of the image data and evaluates a composition by analyzing the image data for example, discriminating whether the principal subject is placed in a prescribed area or not, and an output means which outputs an evaluation result of the image analysis means.
