To provide a digital camera which reduces the power consumption when a subject image is displayed by a moving image based on an output of an imaging element.
A digital camera has an imaging element CCD221 which receives a subject light flux, a back side liquid crystal monitor 26 which displays the through image of a moving image of a subject based on a subject image signal output from the CCD221, and a shutter 203 which interrupts a subject light flux entering the CCD221. The shutter 203 includes a focal plane shutter having a front curtain and a rear curtain which can independently operate, releases only the shutter front curtain in the through image display, mechanically retains the shutter rear curtain without energization to an electric magnet for a shutter rear curtain retention, and drives the shutter rear curtain after driving the front curtain upon imaging operation.
