Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce isooctene improving the biological decomposability of final products (e.g. surfactants or plasticizers for vinyl chloride resins, etc.,) and reduced in the ratio of branched chains especially preferable for environments in a high conversion and in a high selectivity by dimerizing n- butene.

CONSTITUTION: When n-butene is dimerized in the presence of a nickel compound and an organic alkyl aluminum as catalysts to produce isooctane, an amine of formula; NR1R2R3 (R1 to R3 are 1-20C linear or branched alkyl, allyl, benzyl, 3-1OC alicyclic hydrocarbon residue, H; preferably R1, R2 are 3-1OC linear or branched alkyl, allyl, benzyl, 5-7C alicyclic hydrocarbon residue, and R3 is H) and/or its quaternary ammoniun chloride are added to the reaction system, thereby producing the objective compound in a high catalyst activity and in a high selectivity, the objective compound maintaining its small branching degree, improved in the activity by 50% or more and reduced in the branching degree.
