Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dimming window which dispenses with mechanical movement thereof, has a light control function that easily and continuously varies the light transmittance of the window at high speed, and drastically reduces its electric energy consumption required for dimming and dimming quantity control.
SOLUTION: The dimming window is comprised of an optical element main body which varies the light transmittance upon impression thereon of a magnetic field, and an optical element formed of a transparent micro-magnetic head array, for impressing the magnetic field on the optical element main body. More specifically, the optical element is composed of a transparent substrate, a polarizer layer superposed on one surface of the transparent substrate via the transparent micro-magnetic head array and a layer having a magneto-optical effect, and another polarizer layer superposed on the other surface of the transparent substrate.
