CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (X is H, halogen, alkyl, allyl, etc.) such as a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I, for example, is obtained by treating 4-chlorosulfonyldiphenyl ether with chlorobenzene in the presence of a condensation agent such aluminum chloride in a solventless state or in a solvent such as dichloromethane at -10 to 150°C for 0.5-24 hours, treating the resulting substance with hydrochloric acid cooled with ice, optionally purifying by silica gel chromatography, etc., and hydrolyzing with an alkali.
