To obtain the subject new compound which is a UV-A absorber and useful as light protecting agent in cosmetics, medicines and veterinary preparations as an ultraviolet screening agent.
This compound is represented by formula I [R1 is a 2-30C alkyl, a 2-30C alkenyl, a 5-12C cycloalkyl or the like; R2 to R4 are each H, hydroxyl, a 1-30C alkyl or alkenyl; R5 is H or a 1-5C alkyl], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting, e.g. cyanuric chloride with a compound of the formula R1-OH in the presence of a solvent (e.g. acetone) to afford dichloroaryloxytriazine and reacting the compound with resorcinol by Friedel-Crafts reaction in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. aluminum chloride). The compound of formula I is useful for protecting organic materials, especially skins and hairs of human and animals which are sensitive to ultraviolet rays from ultraviolet irradiation.
