Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent a discharge clamp from being damaged in case of short- circuit between different phases, to shorten a recovery time, and to minimize a power interruption in the distribution section where the short-circuit has occurred.

CONSTITUTION: A discharge clamp protective system monitors the current in a distribution line 7 to detect a line current corresponding to the ground-fault current waveform of a discharge clamp 50. On detecting a subsequent short- circuit current in the distribution line 7, a current-limiting element 2 is connected in series with the distribution line 7 to reduce the short-circuit current. The system is designed to disconnect the fault point for a specified short time with the short-circuit current reduced and then reconnect the short-circuited point.
