To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which is easily miniaturized, exerting little thermal stress on electronic components by reducing a thermal effect from a discharge lamp to the lighting device, and to provide a lighting equipment.
For the discharge lamp lighting device comprising a discharge lamp 2 as a light source, a reflection mirror 3 with an opening 3a at one end, controlling a light distribution by surrounding the circumference of the discharge lamp 2, a lighting device 6 connected electrically to a socket 4 for mounting the light source and controlling the lighting of the discharge lamp 2, and a case 5 with frontal opening, supporting the reflection mirror 3, a small opening 52 is formed at a back surface plate 51 of the case 5, and the lighting device 6 is formed so that the shape of a circuit board 61 of the lighting device become nearly same as the shape of the small opening 52, and the circuit board 61 is located to the almost same position with the small opening 52 so as to make the parts mounted on the circuit board protrude from the back side of the case 5.
