To provide a device capable of efficiently discharging a dielectric barrier discharge lamp.
The predetermined amount of at least one or more kinds of rare gas is sealed in the inside of a bulb made of dielectric material, and a dielectric barrier is arranged between at least one electrode and the gas. An external electrode discharge lamp 1 for causing discharge in the bulb through the dielectric barrier is shown in Fig. (a) and (b), and a dielectric barrier discharge excimer lamp 10 is shown in Fig. (c). A lighting circuit 5 impresses a lamp voltage having a repetitive waveform of 1 to 10kV on the external electrode discharge lamp 1, the dielectric barrier discharge excimer lamp 10 or the like. At the time when these lamps are lighted, the rise or fall time of said repetitive waveform is equivalent to a main energy supply period, and is in the range of 0.03 to 9μs. The longest interval between waveforms for supplying said emergy is 3.4μs or more.
