SOLUTION: A reference ground for a detecting circuit 21 for detecting a lamp current in and a lamp voltage on a discharge lamp La is located at a neutral point between switching elements Q1, Q2 connected in series to each other and a reference ground for a driving circuit for driving switching elements Q2, Q3, Q4 after receiving a control signal from a control circuit 22 for controlling the switching elements Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 after receiving a signal from the detecting circuit 21 is located at the lowest potential of the switching elements Q1, Q2.
