PURPOSE: To ensure temporary disconnection of a steering assisting pump by providing the steering assisting pump with a hydraulic clutch which can be operated via the lubricating oil circulation system of a drive.
CONSTITUTION: A steering assisting pump 20 having a hydraulic clutch 18 is connected via a branch pipe 16 to a lubricating oil circulation system 14 extending from a lubricating oil pump 12 driven by an internal combustion engine 10, and is similarly driven by the internal combustion engine 10 via a belt pulley 22. When the internal combustion engine 10 is in a high rotation range and wheel power is small, low manual torque is generated on a steering wheel 32. The manual torque is detected by a torque sensor 34 and transmitted to a control circuit 26, and when the manual torque is not greater than a predetermined value, a solenoid valve 26 is switched to connect the branch pipe 16 to the clutch 18. Thus, pressure from the lubricating oil pump 12 disconnects the clutch 18 to disconnect the steering assisting pump 20 from the belt pulley 22.
