Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the damages of a titled electrolytic cell when it is disconnected and to prevent the degradation in its performance by disposing a semiconductor rectifier in parallel to the bus bar on the positive or negative side of the electrolytic cell to be disconnected then isolating the bus bar from the cell and short-circuiting the electric circuit including the semiconductor rectifier and the electrolytic cell. CONSTITUTION:An arbitrary electrolytic cell is electrically isolated and disconnected from many single pole type electrolytic cells using cation exchange membranes which electrolylze an aq. alkali chloride soln. by the following method. More specifically, in the case of disconnecting an electrolytic cell 1-1 out of the circuits wherein many cells 1-1, 1-2... of the above-described electrolytic cells are electrically connected in series, a moving type semiconductor rectifier (e.g. Se rectifier) 2 is connected, after which a bus bar 3 is removed and a short-circuiting device 4 is closed. Hence, conducting current flows through the device 4, and the reverse current of the disconnected electrolytic cell is prevented from flowing in a reverse direction by the rectifier 2. After the disconnection, proper disposition is applied to the above-described electrolytic cell and this cell is removed from the operation system.
