Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an antimicrobial solution comprising an arylalkanol containing a specific antimicrobial compound, useful as an additive for giving an antimicrobial property to polymer compositions, and produced at a low temperature, and to obtain a composition containing the antimicrobial solution and a polymer-processing auxiliary such as a plasticizer. CONSTITUTION: This antimicrobial solution is obtained by dissolving an antimicrobial compound selected from maleimides such as N-(2-methylnaphthyl) maleimide, isoindole dicarboximides having a sulfur atom bound to the N of the dicarboximide group, such as N-trichloromethylthiophthalimide, halogenated arylalkanols exhibiting an antimicrobial activity, such as 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol, and isothiazolinone compounds such as 2-(n-octyl)-4-isothiazolin-3-one in an arylalkanol solvent such as benzyl alcohol or 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol at a temperature initiating the dissolution. The antimicrobial compound is contained in an amount of 0.1-30wt.% based on the whole weight of the solution.
