To provide a disk array unit that performs parity operation and data update efficiently.
The parity operation is performed in the first parity operation part or the second parity operation part while the corresponding data to the parity operation is sent in a block through an optical input-output part to the disk array from the first DRAM or the second DRAM provided in a pair with each parity operation part. The switching status of circuit changing switches of optical input-output parts from 221 to 226 is controlled by an adjustment circuit 24 so that data and a parity outputted in a block from a pair of the first DRAM and the first parity operation part or data and a parity outputted from a pair of the second DRAM and the second parity operation part in a block can be entered into a disk controller one after the other.
