PURPOSE: To set the number of pulses applied to a motor, proportional to the movement distance of pickup, by obtaining a pickup leading motor by using a pulse motor which turns by a constant angle accuratly in response to each pulse.

CONSTITUTION: For the start of play at an optional disk position, such as a intermusic break, by an indication from an operating circuit, the number of pulses applied to a leading motor 13 is counted by a counter 25 because a pulse motor is used as the motor 13, and on the basis of the count number of pulses, a disk turning motor 3 is controlled to control its turning speed. Therefore, even if no signal from as optical pickup 4 is detected, the disk turning motor 3 is controlled up to a prescribed rotational frequency to obtain synchronism so as to detect a signal by the optical pickup 4.
