PURPOSE: To provide the titled dispersant contg. as effective ingredient a water- soluble anionic copolymer which contains a specified aromatic sulfonic acid and an unsatd. carboxylic acid and imparting good fluidity to a conc. aqueous slurry of fine carbonaceous powder.
CONSTITUTION: The dispersant contains as effective ingredient a water-soluble anionic copolymer which contains 20W95mol% aromatic sulfonic acid (salt) having a copolymerizable double bond (e.g. styrenesulfonic acid or sodium styrenesulfonate) and 5W80mol% unsatd. carboxylic acid ester of the formula (where R1 is H or CH3; R2 is H, CH3 or C2W4 carboxyalkyl; R1 and/or R2 is H; R3 is C2W4 alkylene; n is 1W about 60) [e.g. polyethylene glycol monoester of (meth) acrilic acid]. The dispersant improves the fluidity of an aqueous slurry of fine carbonaceous powder (e.g. coal or petroleum coke) and even when the slurry has a solid content of 65% or higher, it shows good fluidity and can be pumped readily.
