Abstract:

To provide a dispersion-optimized optical fiber which enables desired dispersion characteristic and dispersion tilt characteristic to be obtained and which has a low-loss characteristic.

The dispersion-optimized optical fiber comprises a center core which forms a passageway for transmitting optical signals while having a refractive index N1, and a cladding which encloses the center core while having a refractive index N0. This optical fiber is characterized in that it includes an upper core which has a distribution of refractive indices increased starting from a refractive index N2 at its outer circumference to the refractive index N1 at its internal circumference, and in that it further includes a minutely depressed refractive index region which is interposed between the upper core and the cladding and which has a refractive index N3 lower than the refractive index N0.
