PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a redispersible dispersion powder useful as a water- resistant adhesive by mixing a vinyl ester polymer with polyvinyl alcohol, an anticaking agent, a specific water-sol. aldehyde, a Lewis acid, etc.
SOLUTION: A redispersible dispersion powder is prepd. by mixing a vinyl ester (co)polymer with 2-20wt.% [based on the vinyl ester (co)polymer] polyvinyl alcohol having a degree of hydrolysis of 70-100mol% and a viscosity (of an aq. soln. thereof with a concn. of 4%) of 2-70mPa.s, 0-50wt.% (based on the sum of the foregoing two polymers; the same applies hereunder) anticaking agent, 0.001-5wt.% masked, 3C or higher and di- or higher functional water-sol. aldehyde capable of releasing the aldehyde group in an acidic medium, 0-25wt.% additives (e.g. a film-forming assistant and a plasticizer), and 0-10wt.% Broensted or Lewis acid.
