PURPOSE: To obtain a stabilizer composed of a specific modified polyvinyl alcohol-based polymer, having good polymerization stability, excellent in low temperature viscosity stability, high speed fluidity and water resistance of the resultant aqueous emulsion and useful as an adhesive, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This dispersion stabilizer comprises a modified polyvinyl alcohol- based polymer having a 2-20C hydroxyalkyl group, preferably ω-hydroxyalkyl group at side chain. Furthermore, the polymer is preferably obtained by saponifying a copolymer of a vinylic ester such as vinyl acetate with a monomer such as 7-octene-1-ol, and the aqueous emulsion is preferably obtained by using the polymer as a dispersant and using a polymer comprising one or two or more kinds of monomer units selected from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (e.g. ethylene) and a diene-based monomer (e.g. butadiene) as dispersoids.
