Abstract:
To provide an active matrix type display apparatus having display performance of high definition.
Pixel electrodes 105 and 106 are formed on a substrate, an insulating layer 110 is formed on the pixel electrodes and respective boundary parts of the pixel electrodes are embedded in insulating layers 111 and 112 in a flattening step. In the flattening step, excess thinning of the pixel electrodes can be prevented by protecting the surfaces of the pixel electrodes by a DLC film 109. Level difference is eliminated from the surface of the electrodes by the insulating layer and reduction of contrast due to an alignment defect of a liquid crystal material, irregular reflection of light and the like can be prevented.
