To provide a display apparatus capable of performing a more stable and appropriate correction without increasing the number of parts.
All pixels are rendered into a white display mode; and not the reflected light from a document but illumination light from a backlight is detected by a light accepting element of a liquid crystal display/reading panel 20. A microcontroller 6 calculates the light quantity of the backlight based on a detected voltage outputted from a detector 23, compares the calculated light quantity with a reference light quantity, produces a correction value to correct the light quantity of the backlight to reduce the difference, and outputs the value to an inverter circuit 5. The controller calculates a deviation of luminance from an average in each pixel, generates a correction value in each pixel to compensate the calculated deviation and outputs the value to an image correcting unit 3. Further, the controller generates a correction value to correct lightness in each of RGB colors in display image data to control the luminance averages of the respective colors to be in a predetermined balance, and outputs the correction value to the image correcting unit 3.
