PURPOSE: To reduce the load of an operator and to improve the operation efficiency by displaying automatically a cursor via a pointing device on an icon having the highest frequency for each icon based on the frequency information used precedingly at designation of the second and subsequent times.

CONSTITUTION: A highest frequency retrieving means 32 retrieves a command of the highest frequency and reads out the information on the cursor position in response to the retrieved command. A cursor position register 33 stores the information on the cursor position corresponding to the command having the highest frequency. A cursor control means 34 displays a cursor based on the information on the cursor position stored in the register 33. A frequency file updating means 35 updates the frequency information on a table of the corresponding command of the file 31 after the output of the command of the highest frequency. Then the cursor is moved to a position corresponding to the item of the highest frequency retrieved by the means 32 when the second and subsequent selected items are displayed on the screen after selection of the first time.
