Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the display device for the instrument which has safety, shock resistance, and memory performance and is simplified in element constitution and made thin and lightweight by providing a liquid crystal display part composed of a liquid crystal display element constituted by sandwiching a ferroelectric macromolecular liquid crystal material between resin substrates. CONSTITUTION:A meter unit consists of the display device 21 for the instrument, a housing 31, a cover 33, a dial 34, and a mask 35. The instrument display device 21 is equipped with the liquid crystal display part 1 which displays information on a speed, etc., a unit control part 2 which controls the display information under the control of the whole unit, and an IC chip 3 equipped with a circuit which drives the liquid crystal display element according to the signal from the unit control part 2. The liquid crystal material 9 containing the ferroelectric macromolecular liquid crystal is sandwiched between the resin-made substrates 7 fitted with transparent electrodes 8 and connected to the IC chip 3 through the electrodes 8. Only a couple of polarizing plates 11 may be used and a reflecting plate may be arranged outside the polarizing plate 11 on the back surface.
