A display device for a vehicle includes: a background image acquisition unit which acquires a vehicle-exterior background image; a background image analyzing unit which analyzes the background image; an information display area determination unit which determines an information display area as an area on a windshield on the basis of the result of the analysis of the background image; an image signal generation unit which generates an image signal for being displayed in the information display area; and an image display unit which displays the image signal on the windshield.
