PURPOSE: To obtain a display device capable of reducing power consumption without significantly lowering the quality of a display picture in a display part.

CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a memory 13 storing a picture signal to be supplied to a liquid crystal display panel 8 as a display part by the amount of one field, a comparator 14 comparing the picture signal of a previous field read out from the memory 13 with the picture of a present field being supplied to the liquid crystal display panel 8 and deciding whether the present picture field is the part of a still picture display or the part of a moving picture display and a controller 15 lowering a scanning speed by a driver 9 when it is decided to be the part of the still picture display with the comparison by the comparator 14.
