To provide a miniaturized display device capable of realizing a sufficiently enlarged picture and capable of realizing high luminance and uniformization of luminance over an entire display picture without increasing power consumption.
A liquid crystal display device 1 is provided with a liquid crystal panel 101 provided with an effective display area, a display screen provided with a picture display area larger than the effective display area, an enlarging and image-forming optical system enlarging and image-forming the respective areas of the effective display areas sectioned to plural areas on a display screen, and a back light device 301 illuminating the panel 101 with a parallel light beam. The device 301 is provided with a linear light source 370 and a reflector 380 provided so as to be opposed to the light source 370. The reflector 380 reflects light emitted from the light source 370 so that luminance distribution becomes even on the surface of a liquid crystal panel.
