This display device includes: a liquid crystal display panel 2 on which a plurality of screens (for example, three screens) is displayed in one panel; backlight light sources (for example, a red backlight light source 5, a green backlight light source 6, a blue backlight light source 7) which are provided corresponding to each image display region 2a-2c of the liquid crystal display panel 2; synthetic optical systems (for example, dichroic mirrors 8-10) which synchronize the projection images of three screens into one screen by overlapping; and a magnifying projection optical system (for example, a magnifying lens 11).
