A display device 1 comprises a display panel 2 capable of displaying an instrument image 8, having at least a pointer and a scale and an information image 94 arranged combined with the instrument image 8; control means 4, 5 contracting the instrument image 8 and controlling the display conditions of the display panel 2 to be displayable the shrunk instrument image 8b. When the contracted instrument image 8b is displayed, an information image 94b is overlapped the part of a scale image 82b, constituting the scale, so as to conceal the part. According to this, the display region of the information image can be secured, when an instrument image having at least a pointer and a scale is contracted and displayed.
