Abstract:
To provide a display device capable of improving utilization efficiency of light energy.SOLUTION: A display device 10 comprises a display element 32 which is irradiated with light and through which linear polarization passes. When light having passed through a part of a region of the display element 32 is defined as first display light L1 and light having passed through other regions of the display element 32 is defined as second display light L2, on optical paths of the first display light L1 and the second display light L2, a common polarizing plate 36 is placed which makes light having been projected in a vibration direction of the linear polarization reflect thereon or pass therethrough. A first wavelength plate 35 changing the vibration direction of the linear polarization of the second display light L2 is disposed on the optical path of the second display light L2 between the display element 32 and the polarizing plate 36.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
