PURPOSE: To keep good display by compensating the change of an impressed electric field caused by the film thickness irregularity of a color filter.
CONSTITUTION: Three sub-picture-elements 212 are formed by the crossing parts of a scanning electrode 201 and three information electrodes 202r, 202g, and 202b, the color filters 203 are arranged on the respective sub-picture- elements 212 so as to perform display in red, green and blue. The electric potentials of information signals impressed on the respective information electrodes 202r, 202g and 202b are set in consideration of the film thickness of the respective color filters 203, so that the change of the impressed electric field caused by the film thickness irregularity can be compensated.
