To provide a display liquid for an electrophoretic display device, which display liquid hardly gives rise to flocculation and provides a good contrast and stability.
The display liquid for the electrophoretic display device includes at least one kind of electrified particulates and an electrically insulative solvent and does not substantially contain a surfactant. The electrified particulates contain a resin, coloring agent and electrifying agent and the electrifying agent is a substantially colorless or white onium salt. The electrified particulates are aspherical particulates of 1:1.1 to 1:50 in the ratio of the shortest diameter and longest diameter of the particles thereof and the average particle size of the electrified particulates is 0.01 to 50 μm.
