To provide a display system for vehicles with which the visibility of a characteristic display is assured and the transmission efficiency of display information is improved by disposing a display device 7 for direct viewing which has display images 4 of simplified graphics, such as symbols and icons, intuitionally recognizable at a glance displayed by an HUD 3 and displays the details of their contents with characters in a position spatially proximate to the HUD display images.
The prescribed simplified graphics are reflectively displayed to a combiner 2 installed in a prescribed position by the HUD 3. The character information associated with the combiner is displayed by the display device 7 for direct viewing in the position proximate to the reflection display position of the combiner. As a result, the prescribed information is complementally display on the HUD and the display device for direct viewing and even more the display of both is executed in the proximate positions, by which an observer is enabled to visually recognize the display information of both only with the slight movement of the line of sight. The burden required for recognition of the display information particularly when a driver under driving views the information is lessened.
