PURPOSE: To provide a graphics cursor at low cost by combining a high-speed small cache for temporarily storing one part of the graphics cursor with a low-speed and inexpensive RAM for completely defining the cursor.
CONSTITUTION: A bit map for defining the form of the cursor is stored in a cursor definition memory 40. In this case, the cursor definition memory 40 is a general-purpose RAM but is provided as one part of a general-purpose memory. It is not necessary for such a RAM to accelerate speed. A cursor control logic 36 performs access through a control line 37C and an address line 37A to the cursor definition memory. Thus, cursor pixel data are loaded through data lines 37D and 37WD to a cursor cache 42. The cursor cache 42 is a static memory and in a display mode in which the graphics cursor appears, it is used just for temporarily storing cursor pixel information.
