Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the intensity difference between one and two fluorescent character display sections when one and both of the second control electrodes are turned on by providing the fourth control electrode for reducing the intensity dispersion between two second control electrodes.

CONSTITUTION: When both data electrodes 10a and 10b are turned on and a scanning electrode 12a is turned on, thermoelectrons are deflected in the thermoelectron generation region of a cathode 4 and collide with two fluorescent character display sections 8a and 8b facing each other, two of them are concurrently illuminated. On the other hand, when only one data electrode 10b and the scanning electrode 12a are turned on, the thermoelectron generation region of the cathode 4 includes the corresponding portion of the fourth control electrode 21 and is expanded to twice that in the past. Thermoelectrons in the wide range are deflected to collide with only one fluorescent character display section 8b, which is illuminated.
