Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize cobalt hydroxide and enhance the rate of use of the active material by adding a powder of cobalt hydroxide having undergone a processing with a specific stabilizing agent to a powder of nickel hydroxide, and using it to the active material for positive electrode.
SOLUTION: A powder of cobalt hydroxide is subjected to a processing with a stabilizing agent containing at least one of the high-grade carboxylic acids, ester of carboxylic acid, aldehydes, quinones, phenols, amines, vitamins, and sugars and is added to a powder of nickel hydroxide as an active material, and the obtained substance is used as active material for positive electrode. The rate of use of the active material can be heightened by stabilizing the cobalt hydroxide which is unstable. The resultant alkaline storage battery incorporating such cobalt hydroxide has accordingly a high capacity.
