PURPOSE: To make display for each classification clear even for a display part where color display is impossible by enlarging and displaying a display character at the head position of a classification unit in the case of displaying a picture while classifying it into item units.

CONSTITUTION: Item display picture data 6 containing picture data and an enlarging character flag are stored in a floppy disk 13. These data are read on the side of a control part 19 and transmitted through a data control part 14 and an interface control part 11 to the side of a multi-item input part 10. The transmitted data are passed through an interface control part 9 and an input/output control part 7 and stored in a picture memory 5. Next, the picture data 6 are transformed into character patterns by a CG 4 and at a character enlarging part 3, the relevant character pattern is enlarged according to the enlarging character flag and displayed at a display part 2 by the input/output control part 7. Thus, in the case of displaying the multi-item picture while classifying it into the item units, the partition of the classifying units can be made clear by enlarging and displaying the display character such as the name of a station or the name of a train, for example, at the head position of the classifying unit.
