PURPOSE: To exhaust fused sodium in a short time by forming an opening for pulling out an inner cylinder, and immersing the opening face down in a heated oil bath.
CONSTITUTION: A first opening for pulling out an inner cylinder is opened by cutting an anode cap, and a second opening for taking out sodium in a waste NaS battery is opened by cutting in an oil bath so that oil enters on the sodium of the waste NaS battery to cut off the contact of sodium with air. The battery 3 is set to a work set container 7 having a hole 9 for pulling out the inner cylinder with the cut opening face down to let oil flow out. After oil flowed out, the battery 3 set to the container 7 is immersed in heated oil such as liquid paraffin filled in a heated oil bath. Fused sodium in the battery 3 flows down in the oil through the opening and the pulling out hole 9. The inner cylinder is pulled out from an outer cylinder of the battery 3 in the oil, and the residual battery is taken up from the oil. The container 7 is returned to the original position for reuse.
