Abstract:

To provide a dissimilar metal matrix composite material whose wear resistance, heat resistance, rigidity and corrosion resistance can be improved while making the most of the lightness of an Mg alloy, and also provide a production method therefor.

The metal matrix composite material consists of an integrated porous body consisting of a granular and/or fibrous reinforcing material and a matrix metal filled with the pores of the porous body. In a specific region, the matrix metal consists of an Al alloy, and, in the remaining region, the matrix metal consists of an Mg alloy. In the production method therefor, (1) a granular and/or fibrous reinforcing material is compacted to form a porous body, (2) the molten metal of either Al alloy or Mg alloy is impregnated into the specific region of the porous body, and (3) the molten metal of the other of Al alloy or Mg alloy is thereafter impregnated into the remaining region of the porous body.
