Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain highly accurate distance values for an object of a known size to be detected in a distance image generating device using a light flying time type distance image sensor and thereby to enhance the accuracy of detection, by determining the optimal filter parameter for each of the distance images obtained.SOLUTION: On the basis of calculated distance values calculated by a light flying time type distance image sensor, the optimal parameter of a filter applied for detecting an object of a known size is determined for each pixel. And the determined filter is applied to the calculated distance values to smooth them. The object is detected by detecting a minimum distance value on a distance image having the smoothed distance values as its pixel values. The parameter to be determined may be calculated on the basis of corrected values resulting from the calculated distance values cleared of background information. In this case, the filter may as well be applied to a corrected distance image having the corrected values as its pixel values.
