A synchronization signal, transmitted from the outside, is received, a pulse signal synchronized with this synchronization signal is generated, the phase of the pulse signal is changed, then electromagnetic waves modulated, based on the pulse signal is transmitted to the outside, and the distance to an object having reflected the electromagnetic waves are calculated using the time difference starting from transmission of the electromagnetic waves to the reception of the reflected wave of the electromagnetic wave.
