Abstract:

To provide a distance measuring device which is simple and inexpensive, and which maintains the measurement accuracy against temperature variation.

A chromatic dispersion focusing element 30 is disposed between a semiconductor laser oscillation medium 10 and a target surface 40 in a resonant type external resonator. One end of the resonant type external resonator is the target surface 40, and the other end is a far position surface 12 of the semiconductor oscillation medium. The chromatic dispersion focusing element 30 is used for focusing light that may include multiple wavelength components, and precisely focuses the single wavelength component on the target surface 40. The wavelength of light focused on the target surface 40 is most efficiently combined or reflected, as a feedback signal to a waveguide of the laser oscillation medium 10. Through the induced emission process, the output wavelength of the laser corresponds to the absolute distance between the chromatic dispersion focusing element 30 and the target surface 40, thereby providing the measurement value of the absolute distance between the target surface 40 and the chromatic dispersion focusing element 30.
