To measure by one transit the distance to an observation point which were measured by using two transits.
The observation rivet 10 is prepared which has the four vertexes of a virtual tetrahedron on its surfaces and is provided with marks specifying the positions of the four vertexes. (b) The horizontal and perpendicular angles of the four vertexes of the observation rivet 10 are measured by the transit 12 by sighting the four vertexes. (c) The coordinate values of the four vertexes are calculated from the horizontal and perpendicular angles of the four vertexes. (d) one coordinate representing the observation rivet 10 is calculated from the coordinates of the four vertexes and the distance from the transit 12 to the observation rivet 10 is found.
