To provide a distributed optical fiber sensor capable of more quickly measuring distortions and/or the temperature in the long-length direction of an optical fiber, with high accuracy and high spatial resolution.
The distributed optical fiber sensor 1 has a continuous light or light pulses, in which the light intensity thereof is made incident step-wise so that the light intensity increases as the pulses goes inward, into an optical fiber 18 for detecting, and measures the distortion and/or the temperature of an optical fiber for detecting, based on light by Brillouin scattering phenomenon caused in the fiber 18. The sensor 1 has the continuous light made incident in the fiber 18 while sweeping at a first frequency interval, and is made to exit when the light intensity of the Brillouin scattering phenomena emitted from the fiber 18 satisfies a predetermined condition, the continuous light into the fiber 18, while sweeping at a second frequency interval that is shorter than that of the first frequency interval, in a predetermined frequency range containing a frequency satisfying the requirement.
