PURPOSE: To conduct satisfactory pilot injection until reaching high rotating area by providing a check valve in a passage communicating a high pressure chamber boosted by a plunger with a distributing port, and also providing the variable capacity chamber of a fuel injection rate control device communicatively with this passage.
CONSTITUTION: In a distributing type fuel injection pump, a high pressure chamber 10 partitioned on the end surface of a plunger 5 rotated and reciprocated interlockingly with engine operation is connected to a lower pressure chamber through an intake passage 12 and to a fuel injection valve 13 through a distributing port 8. A spill port 18 communicated to the high pressure chamber 10 through a center port 25 is opened and closed by a spill ring 19, whereby fuel discharge quantity is regulated. In this case, a check valve 29 closed when the pressure on the distributing port 8 side is high is provided on the center port 25. The variable capacity chamber 38 of a fuel injection rate control device 2 is provided communicatively with the center port 26, allowing the regulation of fuel injection rate by the operation of an electrostrictive actuator 34.
