Title:
DITERPENE QUINONE COMPOUND
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2000344708
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain a new compound useful as a controlling and antimicrobial substance for plant pathogenic fungi such as Pyricularia oryzae of rice plants by carrying out extraction from a bark of a Japanese cedar and separating the resultant compound according to a column chromatography.

This compound is represented by the formula (Me is methyl). The compound is produced by pulverizing a bark to 150-350 μm particle size, extracting the pulverized bark with a nonpolar solvent (e.g. hexane) for 2-48 h and separating the objective compound by using a column chromatography filled with a silica gel. The bark of coniferous tree such as a Japanese cedar has a possibility of existing various substances having physiological actions due to properties as a biophylactic tissue forming the outermost layer of the tree; however, the bark as an industrial waste is mostly subjected to incineration disposal besides the utilization thereof for fuels, etc.
