The doctor blade edge is polished by relatively moving a grinding wheel 6 and the doctor blade 1 determined on a position and an attitude in the longitudinal direction of the doctor edge, while rotating the grinding wheel 6, by changing a relative position and an attitude of the grinding wheel 6 and the doctor blade 1, so that a grinding surface 6a vertical to a rotary shaft 7 of the grinding wheel 6 becomes the direction for respectively grinding a tip surface, an upper inclined face, and a lower inclined face of the doctor blade edge. Since the device polishes by applying the grinding surface 6a vertical to the rotary shaft 7 of the grinding wheel 6 to the doctor blade edge, the grinding surface 6a of the grinding wheel 6 is uniformly worn, and the tip surface, the upper inclined face, and the lower inclined face of the doctor blade edge can also be polished as a uniform plane.
