This document and journal treatment device has a plurality of medium carrying passages 4 arranged adjacent to one another for carrying media 3 in a preset direction with a driving roller 2 driven by driving gears 1. A selective gear 6 is arranged between the driving gears 1, 1 in each medium carrying passage 4, rotationally driven by a driving motor 5 and engaged with one of the driving gears 1 in an engaged counterpart changeable manner. The selective gear 6 is moved to an engagement position at such an entering angle that component force in a preset direction of rotation is granted to the driving gear 1, when put in contact with the driving gear 1 at their addendum circles.
