PURPOSE: To print the number of the pages concerned along with the number of the pages of the whole by performing control so that the number of pages during the present printing and the total number of pages to be printed are printed on the same page.

CONSTITUTION: A control part 8 sets the value stored in a printing start number- of-page memory part 2 to a control page counter 6a and subsequently skips pages up to the number of pages to be started in printing through a document reading part 9. When the document data of a printing start page is read from the document reading part 9, said data is sent to a printing data forming part 10 to actually carry out printing through a printing part 11. When the data of one page comes to a place having to print the number of pages during printing, the control part 8 issues a command to the printing data forming part 10 so as to form printing data of '5/9', '5-9' or the form equal thereto from the values respectively stored in a printing page counter 6b and a total number- of-page memory part 5 and the printing part 11 carries out printing.
